Registration for Event Open.

Bangalore, February 24, 2010: Visual Studio has been the most favored IDE for developing applications in the .NET framework. Visual Studio 2010, codenamed “Hawaii”, is now slated to be released on 12 April 2010. VS 2010 is in focus this summer at India's biggest summit for the software developer ecosystem - Great Indian Developer Summit (http://www.developersummit.com/). Sachin Vinod Rathi and Mehfuz Hossain are coming to GIDS 2010, to speak about putting the 2010 version to use, on 20th April at the Indian Institue of Science in Bangalore.

For those looking to build Visual Studio 2010 add-ins with ease, Mehfuz Hossain demonstrates how you can build a VS 2010 addin from ground up using the .Net 4.0 Features, Microsoft Extensibility Framework (MEF) and the Visual Studio 2010 Managed Addin Framework (MAF). Mehfuz will also indulge in an overview of how the new addin framework works and the key concepts that get you started. Sachin Vinod Rathi focuses on how VS 2010 eases the process of building SharePoint applications. With VS 2010's out of the box support for SharePoint templates, it's now easier to design, develop and deploy SharePoint Applications, Web Parts from within Visual Studio. Join Sachin's talk to learn more about developing SharePoint applications with Visual Studio 2010 Beta.

Sachin Vinod Rathi is Architect Advisor with Microsoft India. Over the period of 12+ years, he has been leading and architecting enterprise products, provided architectural direction, technology assessment, and technical team leadership on legacy product re-architecture and modernization. Prior to Microsoft, he worked with SAP and led an IP initiative that resulted in the filing of four Patent disclosures and more than a dozen patent applications. Mehfuz is a core member at Telerik Corporation. WCF is the part of the .NET Framework dedicated to communications.

Originally tagged with the code name "Indigo", WCF is one of the four new application programming interfaces introduced with .NET Framework 3.0, which was released in December 2006. The .NET Framework is Microsoft technology that ships in Windows operating systems (client, server and mobile platforms). The .NET Framework v3.0 is included in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008; It is available as a free download for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, and a similar but separate version is also available for .NET Compact Framework version 3.5.

Because WCF is part of the .NET Framework, applications that use WCF can be developed in any programming language that can target the .NET runtime.

That means we need to optimize our code to use multiple CPU by threading (synchronous / asynchronous) or something like that. How .Net 4.0 will cater this practical need, that can be watched

Joining Tables
Instead joining tables using WHERE clause, use INNER JOIN / LEFT OUTER JOIN / RIGHT OUTER JOIN. This will increase the performance.

Retraction Rows and Columns
Restrict the queries result set by using the WHERE clause and select only those columns whose values are required. This will use less memory, processing time will be less and data transmission will be less.

Instead writing complex SQL using the application write Stored Procedures. The SQL will be in pre compiled state. Here for multiple time calls the same SP, the same query execution plan will be reused.

If possible, try to avoid use cursors. This will degrade performance heavily.

If possible, try to avoid use triggers. Maintaining trigger is difficult.

Be careful to use DISTINCT, UNION clauses. If required then only use it.

Be careful to use GROUP BY, HAVING clauses. If grouping is required then only use it.

Keep "SET NOCOUNT ON" statement at the top of the stored procedures, this counts rows returned for each query statement.

One simple examples has been given in

http://sqlblog.com/blogs/ben_miller/archive/2008/08/29/what-is-a-sarg-exactly-training-classes-and-knowledge-retention.aspx

The steps occured before Query Optimizer works

After a query is submitted, the following steps are occured to transform the query into a format that the query optimizer can interpret.

Parsing Process
Checks the incoming query for correct syntax and breaks down the syntax into component parts that the relational database engine can respond to. The output of this step is a parsed query tree.

Standardization Process
Transforms a query into a useful format for optimization. Any redundant syntax clauses that are detected are removed. Subqueries are standardized if possible. The output of this step is a standardized query tree.

Query Optimization
The process of selecting one execution plan from several possible plans is called optimization. The following steps have the most significant effect on the cost of the execution plan: query analysis, index selection, and join selection.

Query Analysis
Identifies the search and join criteria of the query
Index Selection
Determines whether an index or indexes exist
Assesses the usefulness of the index or indexes
Join Selection
Evaluates which join strategy to use

Compilation
The query is compiled into executable code.

Database Access Routines
The query optimizer determines the best method to access data, by performing a table scan, or by using an available index. The better method is then applied.

Server Error

Thanks pointing out the error.
